Our Privacy-First Approach

RecipeForge is built with your privacy in mind. We believe your recipe data, calculations, and browsing habits are yours alone.

What We Collect

Nothing, by default. RecipeForge operates entirely in your browser. Your recipes, calculations, and settings are stored locally on your device using IndexedDB and localStorage.

• All calculator inputs and results stay on your device
• Recipe versions and batch notes are saved locally
• No account creation or registration required
• No personal information collected

Data Storage

All your data is stored locally in your browser:

• Where: IndexedDB and localStorage on your device
• What: Recipes, calculations, calculator history, preferences
• Retention: Forever, until you clear your browser data or delete items
• Who can access it: Only you, on this device

Sharing Recipes

When you use the "Share" feature, recipe data is encoded in the URL. This allows you to share calculations with others. Important notes:

• Shared URLs contain your recipe/calculation data in plain text
• Anyone with the URL can see the data
• URLs are not stored on our servers
• Be mindful of what you share via URLs

Third-Party Services

Ahrefs Web Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics for understanding site usage patterns. This service:

• Collects anonymized page view data
• Does NOT collect personal information
• Does NOT use cookies
• Respects Do Not Track signals

Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense for displaying advertisements. AdSense may:

• Use cookies for ad personalization
• Collect browsing data per Google's privacy policy
• You can opt out through Google's ad settings

AI Recipe Analyzer (Optional Feature)

Our AI Recipe Analyzer feature is completely optional and uses Vercel AI Gateway:

• Only when you explicitly use it: Data is only sent when you click "Analyze Recipe"
• What is sent: Recipe name, ingredient list, and optional instructions you provide
• Where it goes: Sent to Vercel AI Gateway which routes to OpenAI's API
• Processing purpose: To generate recipe analysis and suggestions
• No storage: Your recipe data is not stored by us or the AI provider
• Model used: Configurable via environment variable (default: openai/gpt-5-nano)

Your Rights

Since we don't collect your data, there's nothing for us to delete or modify. You have complete control:

• Clear your browser data to remove all locally stored recipes and calculations
• Use private/incognito mode for temporary calculations
• Export your recipes as JSON or text files for backup

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
